Bill Nye in the Jungle

From IMDB:

Nye Requests Restraining Order Against Former Fiancee

TV star Bill Nye has requested a restraining order against his former fiancee after she allegedly tried to poison him. Nye, also known as Bill Nye, The Science Guy, sought the order in a Los Angeles court on September 4, after spotting his ex, Blair Tindal, dressed in black and acting suspiciously near his home. The order would prevent Tindal from coming near his California house and contacting him. The legal papers filed state Tindal "emerged from my backyard... carrying two plastic bottles filled with some sort of solvent. Apparently she was trying to poison my plants including some vegetable(s). She fled on foot and then a car sped away from the scene." Tindal had driven by his house twice in the previous three weeks. Nye also complained in an abuse report that Tindal "left a coffee pot on my porch" on August 16. However, Tindal filed a response on November 13, disagreeing with the terms of the restraining order. A hearing has been set for December 20.

(Bill Nye married Blair Tindal, author of Mozart in the Jungle, the tell-all book about the classical musician scene in NYC, a few years ago. Guess they're divorced now.)

After reading the Amazon editorial reviews, it makes you wonder what brought the two of them together. They don't seem to share anything in common in career or lifestyle.

I feel sorry for Bill Nye.

I remember seeing him at OMSI in Portland many years ago when I took a class there for a fieldtrip. I recall thinking how scientifically serious he looked through that pane of glass. (He used to be a staple in our limited T.V. viewing house.)

The business tough; the sex is good; the writing is even better., September 14, 2005

By W. Bill Nye "The Science Guy" (Santa Monica, California) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs, and Classical Music (Hardcover)
The sex is great. The drugs scenes are creepy. The relentless rounds of rehearsals, auditions, and working at "playing" might rend your heart. But, you can't stop reading, because the writing is so good. I got started on this book through friends, who are, and now were, full-time professional classical musicians. I couldn't stop. They share the same misgivings. Classical musicians live with weird reverence from strangers, cutthroat competition from peers, and very low esteem from their employers. In this jungle, it's a wild life. With all the great story telling, don't miss the message. Near as I can tell, Blair Tindall is trying to change the world. Classical musicians work in a tough business, and few of us understand the market forces at work where they play. A musician or the parents of a musician might want to mull the quality of an exclusive conservatory education. Reading the other reviews here, you can tell the ones written by musicians. There's plenty of pique. Yikes. Blair Tindall worked hard enough to play Carnegie Hall, then every bit as hard to write this well. Try it.

I found a brand new, paperback copy of Mozart In The Jungle... on Amazon for $2.14 (shipped from Portland, OR), so I couldn't resist buying it.
